Many car accidents occur each year in Kansas due to drunk or impaired drivers. The problem is not just a local one, however. Unfortunately, impaired driving accidents are a growing national problem.

Two Kansas women were injured when a drunk driver crashed into their house in Wichita on Dec. 18. According to police, a 33-year-old man missed a corner while he was driving and crashed into the home on Suncrest Court just before 10 p.m. The man's vehicle ended up inside of the home's living room.

Drunk driving continues to be a major threat to life and limb in Kansas and Missouri. Mothers Against Drunk Driving was founded in 1980, and since then, according to national data from 2012, the annual number of DUI-related deaths has been reduced by half. Still, more needs to be done, both in terms of driver education and justice in civil and criminal courts.
